2011-2012

Scholarship Committee: Solicits and reviews applications for applicants planning to enter the field of education (Spring)- Help a deserving student get money for college! Do you know a promising student interested in an education career who could use some help with tuition? In these times, who doesn't? Tell them about the Prospective Educator Scholarships, offered only to students planning to pursue a career in education who have a connection to PDK.

Membership Committee: Recruits and supports new members; helps plan new member orientation and invitation ceremony (Fall, Spring) Ellyn Bowman

Recognition Committee

Making a Difference: honoring a teacher, an administrator, a support staff member…someone who is there always when you need them.  Someone who is a local dynamo, who leads the charge, who is the core, the heart and soul of your operation. 

Friend of Education: Solicits and reviews nominations to honor a colleague who is makin g a difference in your work place; this is an ideal way to recognize someone at each dinner for a job extraordinarily well done (Spring)

Educator of the Year: Solicits and reviews nominations to select a member of the education community who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to public education. (Spring)

Service Key Committee: Selects a fellow Kappan to receive PDK's highest award for outstanding contributions to the Northern Virginia chapter.

Community Chest: Coordinates the efforts of partner schools who share through the Community Chest project and conducts a drive each year to collect items of warm winter clothing for needy children. (Fall, Spring) Janet Molan
